Fascinating Journey

Garuda Indonesia is the national airline of Indonesia. It is named after the Mythical bird Garuda. It is headquartered at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang.

In Indian Vedic tradition, Garuda is the carrier of the Hindu god Vishnu; a representation of Garuda appears in the coat of arms of Indonesia. The airline is based in Jakarta at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, with hubs at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, Juanda International Airport, Surabaya, Polonia International Airport, Medan, Sepinggan International Airport, Balikpapan, and Singapore Changi Airport, Singapore. [Citation needed] The airline flies to a number of destinations in South-East, East Asia, the Middle East and Australia. It also previously flew to several destinations in Europe and North America. From June 2007 to July 2009, Garuda, along with all Indonesian airlines, was banned from flying to the EU. However, this ban has been lifted since July 2009.

Garuda Indonesia is listed as a 3-star airline by Skytrax, and is also listed among Skytrax's Quality Approved Airlines. It is wholly owned by the Indonesian Government and employs 6.285 staff (at March 2007).

Destinations
Garuda currently operates flights to a total of 45 destinations (28 domestic, 17 international) Throughout East Asia, South Asia, and South East Asia, Australia and the Middle East, with Australia and Japan being the vital tourism markets.

On 13 October 2009, Garuda Indonesia announced they will be resuming flights to Europe for the first time after removal from the EU blacklist. The flight will be to Amsterdam, Netherlands with a stop over at Dubai, United Arab Emirates operated by an Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Garuda Indonesia have announced the details of their new daily service Amsterdam to Jakarta.
From 1st June 2010, Garuda Indonesia will re-open its Jakarta-Amsterdam service, with a new flight which operate via Dubai. Garuda Indonesia will fly from Jakarta (CGK) at 21:00 Local and arrive in Dubai (DXB) at 02.09 Local. Departing again at 03.15 and arriving in Amsterdam (AMS) at 08.00 Local Time. From Amsterdam (AMS), 89 GA Local departs at 10:00, arriving in Dubai (DXB) at 18:30 Local, and Departing again at 19:45 and arriving in Jakarta (CGK) at 07.10 Local Time.
